So, your claim was denied. Now what? If your claim was denied and you received a denial letter, there are 3 possible reasons why your claim can be denied by the Veterans Administration office. And, there are also 3 ways to respond. You will be rejected if you do not provide enough proof of your medical condition being related to your time in the military. It is also possible that the VA made a mistake that can easily be fixed. Common mistakes are confused service numbers or someone with a similar or exact name. If the VA has set up a C&P examination for you It’s really important to go. Contact the VA immediately if you have to reschedule your Compensation and Pension Examination. If you missed your C&P Exam you could lose your claim because the VA might believe that you no longer want to pursue your benefits. If you missed your C&P exam, call them right away to reschedule. In response to the letter you can request a higher review, submit additional supporting evidence or request hear with the VA Board Board.

Your VA Disability Claim decision packet, in its entirety, is now prepared to be mailed to you.   This step usually takes around 7-14 business days.

Step 7: The VA Decision is Sent 

​The VA will send you a packet by U.S. mail that includes details of the decision on your claim. Please allow 7 to 10 business days for your packet to arrive before contacting the VA.

Step 8: VA Claim is Approved 

When you receive your decision notice, if it shows at least a 10% disability rating, you'll get your first payment within 15 days. The VA pays you either by direct deposit or check. If you don't get a payment after 15 days, please call the Veterans help line at 800-827-1000, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.
As for the ongoing disability payments, you’re probably wondering, “When do I get paid?”.   VA payment benefits are paid the first business day of the following month. If the first business day occurs on a non-business day, weekend or a holiday, VA benefits will be paid on the last business day prior to the first of the month.

Step 9: VA Claim Denied 

Once a decision is made by the VA, the VA considers your case completed.  
What is the possibility of your claim being denied?  Today, 31 percent of claims are denied—and 60 percent of those denials are in error.   Please note Step 10 below. If you disagree with the disability rating you receive, you can reopen your claim by filing an appeal.
